Hardwork

Hardwork

Community-based research bridges academics with communities. It's about collaboration, creating knowledge, driving social change. I've done this kind of research. It transformed me and those involved.  Knowledge gets built jointly through this approach rather than academics studying subjects.  Working on such projects showed me their powerful impacts, both for people engaged and the communities served.

My experiences exemplify the transformative potential inherent in community-based work. This essay recounts the ups, downs, and wisdom gained along my path with community-based inquiry. The experience of engaging in community research empowered both myself and the community members.

By making decisions together and creating knowledge collaboratively, community members asserted their agency and advocated for their needs. The research process mobilized the community and fostered solidarity and empowerment among participants. Besides scholarly outputs, the research led to outcomes like policy recommendations and initiatives tackling housing inequalities.
